Getting Started in Social Media, on Twitter

Old ways to measure your online success were eyeballs, page-views, time spent on the site/page, number of fans and followers. Now, it’s important to look at interactions, the number of inbound inks to your site/pages, blog comments, retweets and likes from your posts.

Out of 90 Million tweets a day, and over 1 million unique urls shared every day, how do you get started and how do you stand out?

Have you ever thought of Twitter as a search engine? You should.

Check out www.search.twitter.com. Once there, search some keywords related to your products or your services. You’ll find conversations happening already, and be able to connect with those having the conversations. Sometimes listening online is a great first step to get comfortable with new communication tools like Twitter.

You can begin to monitor news make connections with these influencers as you build relationships.

Online audiences demand relevance. It is all about quality over quantity. It is all about understanding who your audience is, what questions or needs they have and how you can deliver answers and information they need, when they need it.

When you find the conversations taking place, and the questions being asked you can look at your website, your content, your articles and outline how you become a resource for those questions. Create articles answering questions being asked. Then, reply to those questions with a link to the helpful article. Be relevant and helpful, not a pushy sales person.

This should get you started. Any questions? Leave them in the comments section below!
